What is Magick?

For me, Magick is my latest attempt to answer ancient questions like “where do we come from and why are we here?” Magick is the force that allows me to ask those questions in the first place. Somehow, Magick asks the question and answers it.

I like the word “magick” because it feels playful and childlike. I can pretend life is simply a drama and I am an actor. I can watch from the edge of my seat eager to see what surprises lie ahead. Like going to a good show, Magick begs me to figure out how things work. And of course, I can’t know… yet that doesn’t stop me from trying. “Magick” honors the mind-bending frustration that being human creates and showcases the awe-inspiring and horrifying reality of here and now.

When I zoom in, I experience Magick as an ever-changing expression… of life… of death… and everything in between… and beyond! It is the essence of creation. It is the goo that God uses to mold the universe into this moment. I think some people call it the Tao. Other people call it God, Goddess, Universe, Love… I like to call it Us. Whatever you call the energy creating this experience and relationship between soul and ego, God and Human, you and me–that’s the playground of which we experience Magick.

In reality, Magick is ineffable and nameless because it has infinite names. It cannot be an object and is more like a constant verb. It is an illusion just as much as it is real. It is the unknown, striving force deep within your being that is creating “you.” It is the canvas, the paint brush, and the perceived image. Magick is the stage where we dance between being human and being God.

Put simply, Magick is love. Magick is the freedom to experience what you truly desire. Magick is the song in your heart you are desperately trying to sing. One that you’re still learning and you find infinite inspiration for. Magick is the part of you that says “I love you” when all other parts can’t. It is unconditional and the ultimate muse!

Magick isn’t “magick.” It is…. ?

Life seems like a joke I don’t get, but my soul does.
